Capital campaign

the gathering place  - A need & a Vision

Vision Statement

To better serve our community we seek to actualize the mission of each of the participating groups by creating a space that nurtures and fosters the Sutton/Chickaloon Native and Non-native community. This space will strengthen our community by centralizing and combining local organizations, blending community groups and members and fostering new support networks that enhance the quality of life for all in our community.

BACKGROUND

For many years the communities of Chickaloon and Sutton have been divided along racial lines.  The Chickaloon Traditional Village, recognizing the strength of a unified community has begun to repair the damage by proactively pursuing community development for native and non-native alike.

One of the largest needs for the area is the lack of a community meeting place.  The Chickaloon Traditional Council has begun planning for a “Gathering Place” where all in the area would be welcome.  This state of the art facility would provide a necessary location for services, events, and activities and would become a hub of conversation and community growth.  The Gathering Place will house Sutton Public Library, a Community Health Center, and Elder’s Food Program, Community Kitchen, education/conference room, Environmental Protection Program offices and other office space.

The village is currently pursuing collaboration with CNV, Matanuska-Susitna Borough, and Sutton Community Council to help make this dream a reality.  While exciting, the project is a daunting task.  The Village of Chickaloon welcomes any sort of assistance from agencies, companies and individuals.  This is an opportunity to truly be a tangible part of something beneficial to the entire community.
